In 2002, the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library, the Greentown Public Library, and the Howard County Historical Society formed the Howard County Digitization Consortium. Sharing a common interest in preserving local historical materials and making them available to as many people as possible, the consortium supported the digitization of unique local print resources in the spirit of the American Memory Project created by the Library of Congress.
Funding received from the Community Foundation of Howard County, the Howard County Genealogical Society, and the Institute of Museums and Library Services under provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) administered by the Indiana State Library allowed the consortium to begin digitizing Howard County high school yearbooks from 1901-1950. A project coordinator and seven summer staff were hired to begin the work. At the end of the first five months, approximately 10,000 pages had been scanned and data entered into the Kokomo-Howard county Public Library’s dedicated server using the Parchment 2.0 database.
Since 2002, volunteers and part-time staff are continuing the project to include yearbooks through 1977. Copyright law precludes us from publishing any yearbooks from 1978 on. The images on this website are.jpg files derived as each yearbook page was scanned and saved as a .TIFF file and recorded on a CD. The CDs are available to view at the “Primary Archive” listed on the individual records, plus a copy of every CD is stored at the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library in the Genealogy & Local History department.
If you own a yearbook from a Howard County high school that does not appear on the website and you would like to loan or donate it to the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library, please contact the project coordinator.
To search for a specific yearbook, type in the name of the yearbook followed by the year in the search box on this page.
For example, if you want to find the yearbook for Northwestern's class of 1975, type in PANORAMA 1975 and then click on the search button.
Coming soon: Click on the "Digitial Yearbooks Available" above and then click on the green year link to go directly to the yearbook images.
Names of people are also searchable, but please be aware that misspelling of names is very common in yearbooks, as well as typeos. Also consider searching for a person by their first inital and last name which was used in some yearbooks to save space, or try searching by the person's nickname.
